Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, treats excess skin and under-eye bags to give the eyes a fresher, more rested appearance. Every plan is tailored to your features, with consultations and follow-up care available in English.

Eyelid surgery in Alicante: what you should know

As we age, the skin around the eyes loses elasticity. Upper eyelids can become heavy or droop, sometimes alongside the brows, while fat pockets and loose skin beneath the eyes can create bags and a tired appearance.

When pronounced upper-lid skin hangs over the eye, it may even affect the upper field of vision. An individual assessment helps establish whether surgery should address the upper lids, lower lids or both.

What do we want to achieve?

The aim is to reduce excess eyelid skin and, where appropriate, reposition or remove the fat that creates bags. The result should look rested and natural, without changing your personal expression.

For people whose upper eyelids obstruct their sight, removing the excess skin may also improve their field of vision. Your surgeon will explain what is achievable in your case.

  • A fresher, more open-looking gaze.
  • Less heaviness in the upper lids or puffiness beneath the eyes.
  • Incisions planned to be as discreet as possible.
  • A treatment tailored to your anatomy and goals.

Upper blepharoplasty

Removes excess skin from the upper eyelids and addresses fat where needed. The incision is generally placed in the natural eyelid crease, helping the scar become discreet as it heals.

Lower blepharoplasty

Treats lower-eyelid bags and loose skin. Depending on your anatomy, the approach may be through the inside of the eyelid or just beneath the lashes. The appropriate technique is selected at consultation.

Combined blepharoplasty

Upper and lower eyelid surgery can be performed together when both areas need treatment, giving the whole eye area a balanced, refreshed appearance.

Total lifting: a broader approach to facial rejuvenation

Dr. Carlos Laredo's total lifting approach brings together surgery around the eyes with treatment of the rest of the face and neck. The eye surgery may include complete blepharoplasty, a brow lift and fat transfer to the cheeks, while a facelift repositions tissues in the middle and lower face and neck.

Dr. Laredo has developed this combined approach through his experience in facial surgery. It is designed to achieve balanced, natural-looking rejuvenation across the face. Suitability, the precise combination of procedures and likely results are assessed individually; ageing continues after surgery.

Is blepharoplasty right for me?

It may be suitable if loose upper-eyelid skin, lower-eyelid bags or a heavy-looking eye area bothers you. Some people also seek treatment when drooping skin affects vision. Both women and men can benefit. It is commonly considered from the late 30s onwards, although age alone does not determine suitability.

Can eyelid surgery be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Depending on your goals and health, it may be combined with a brow lift, facial fat transfer, a facelift or other procedures. Dr. Laredo will advise which combination is appropriate.

When can I return to daily life and work?

Many people can resume quiet daily activities after around four to five days and return to work after seven to ten days. Bruising and swelling vary, so your own schedule may differ.

When can I exercise again?

More demanding activity and sport are commonly resumed after about three weeks, subject to your surgeon's advice and how you are healing.

What happens before and after surgery?

The process starts with a consultation and personalised examination. A pre-anaesthetic assessment and clinical photographs help plan the operation. After surgery, scheduled reviews allow the team to monitor healing and answer your questions.

How long do the results last?

Results are often long-lasting, but the face continues to age. Skin quality, lifestyle and anatomy influence how the eyelids change over time; some people may eventually consider further treatment.

Is blepharoplasty safe?

As with any operation, there are risks, including infection, bleeding or haematoma, temporary asymmetry, healing issues and reactions to anaesthesia. Dr. Laredo will discuss risks relevant to you. Surgery is performed in an appropriate hospital setting at Hospital Vithas Alicante, with follow-up care afterwards.

How much does blepharoplasty cost?

The fee depends on whether the upper lids, lower lids or both are treated, and on any combined procedures. You will receive a personalised quotation after consultation. An online assessment may offer an initial estimate, and financing options may be available.
