When regular exercise and a healthy diet cannot shift specific areas of localised fat, liposuction can reshape selected areas of the body and create a more balanced contour, with every step explained clearly in English.

Liposuction in Alicante: what you should know

Persistent fat deposits can develop in different parts of the body because of genetic, hormonal and lifestyle factors. Their location varies from person to person, but they often share one characteristic: they are difficult to reduce even with consistent exercise and balanced nutrition.

These areas can be the first places where fat accumulates and among the last to change. Liposuction is designed for precisely these localised deposits within a personalised body-contouring plan.

What can liposuction achieve?

Liposuction permanently removes selected deposits of subcutaneous fat that distort the silhouette and resist exercise and a healthy diet. The aim is a slimmer, more harmonious contour that remains in proportion with the rest of the body.

Many patients also find that feeling more comfortable with their body makes it easier to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. The procedure can treat one area or several areas in the same surgical plan; when multiple areas are carefully reshaped, the term liposculpture is often used.

  • Reduce persistent pockets of localised fat.
  • Improve proportion between different body areas.
  • Refine the waist, hips, thighs, arms or other selected areas.
  • Create a natural contour rather than simply reducing weight.

Which areas can be treated?

In women, persistent fat commonly accumulates around the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, back, flanks and arms. In men, it is frequently found around the abdomen, flanks and chest. Selected deposits may also be treated around the knees, ankles, underarms, face, chin or neck. When upper-arm skin is significantly loose, an arm lift may be more appropriate than liposuction alone.

How is liposuction performed?

Very small incisions are made in discreet positions around the treatment area. A fine cannula connected to a suction system is introduced through these openings and moved carefully to remove fat and sculpt the contour. The entry-point scars usually become barely noticeable over time.

Body contouring, not weight-loss surgery

Liposuction treats fat just beneath the skin; it does not remove visceral fat around the internal organs and is not a treatment for obesity. The amount removed must remain within safe limits and depends on body weight and skin quality; removing more than around 5-6% of body weight is not usual. Larger-volume treatment may need to be staged.

It does not remove cellulite or stretch marks. Good skin elasticity is important because the skin must adapt to the new contour after fat removal.

Combined procedures and fat transfer

When skin is significantly loose, liposuction may be combined with a tummy tuck or another lifting procedure. Purified fat can also be used for facial fat transfer or body fat transfer when additional volume is desired elsewhere.

Is liposuction a good option for me?

Liposuction may be suitable for women and men who are close to their healthy weight but have localised fat that persists despite exercise and balanced nutrition. Good skin elasticity is important so that the skin can adapt smoothly after fat removal. In men, it may also form part of treatment for gynaecomastia when the fatty component predominates.

It is not designed for weight loss and is not suitable for people with obesity, who should lose weight before considering surgery. It may also be combined with fat transfer when one area needs reduction and another would benefit from additional volume.

Can liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes. Liposuction can be performed with selected facial or body procedures when medically appropriate. It is frequently combined with a tummy tuck, or with facial fat transfer or body fat transfer using the purified fat removed during surgery.

When can I return to daily activities and work?

Depending on the extent of treatment, the areas treated and the type of work you do, everyday activities and work can often be resumed after approximately 3-7 days. Walking is encouraged from the first day, while significant physical effort should be avoided during the first few weeks.

When can I exercise again?

A compression garment is normally worn for around one month. Sporting activity is usually reintroduced after this period, following your surgeon's instructions. Walking is recommended from the first day.

What are the steps before and after surgery?

The process starts with a personalised consultation to assess the treatment areas, explain the technique, anaesthesia, recovery and expected result, and provide a final quote. A second appointment includes a pre-anaesthetic assessment together with an anatomical and photographic study for detailed surgical planning.

After surgery, scheduled follow-up appointments help support a safe recovery and monitor the result as swelling settles.

How long do liposuction results last?

The fat cells removed from the treated areas are permanently eliminated. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle is important because weight can still be gained in untreated areas and the remaining fat cells can enlarge.

Is liposuction safe?

Liposuction is considered safe when performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an appropriate hospital environment. As with any surgery, uncommon complications can include infection, haematoma, seroma, fat embolism, healing problems, changes in skin sensation, contour irregularities and risks related to anaesthesia.

At MARLA CLINIC, surgery and follow-up take place at Hospital Vithas Alicante, with dedicated anaesthetic care and access to full hospital resources. Careful technique, following all instructions and attending every review help minimise risk.

What is the price of liposuction?

The price is personalised because it depends on the number and size of the areas treated and whether another procedure is included. The final quote is provided after your first consultation. An online assessment may provide an initial estimate, and financing options are available.
